Witnesses are independent organisations that sign the log’s latest state every few minutes. If Veil showed you a different card from the one everyone else sees, their signatures would show the difference.
Fingerprint of the identity
These twelve words come from the card’s ID, which stays the same when keys or accounts change. Compare them with the words the owner gives you, in person, on a call or on their own site: if every word matches, this is their card.
Who signs for it
It has no keys of its own. An owner or admin signs each change from their own device.
